 How do I get rid of Palmetto bugs? I live in Georgia & have heard that Borax doesn't work in humid climates like this. What else can I use? These bugs freak me out! They're huge and when one ran under my bed, I stopped sleeping in my bed and started sleeping on the couch...I don't want it crawling on me at night...they don't seem afraid of humans at all and they're so big that they're hard to kill and run away SO fast when I try to kill them, that I can't easily catch them. Help! I think they're getting in somehow from the porch because I often find dead ones on the carpet by the back door. (But I see no holes there...the door is so tight that it sticks, so I think it has plenty of weatherstripping or else not enough space for more, in the door frame.) But it's the live ones that bother me. Help! actually palmetto is a fancy word for a type of cock roach..it's the generic name for either the American roach or the Smokey Brown roach. If there is a water problem their numbers can look like a German cockroach infestation. (another common name for them is water bug). If it mainly is just the large ones you are seeing, it probably is just a high outside population where some are getting in. Treating around the perimeter of the structure, making sure there isn't any rotting fire wood next to the home, even hollow trees within 30 feet of the home can be a source.
