1967 GTO Sale
The Pontiac division of General Motors introduced the GTO (Gran Turismo Omologato) in 1964. The GTO survived relatively short, but full of events that included 11 years and three generations of model vehicles. GM will eventually manage to re-launch the Pontiac GTO in 2004 by Holden, an Australian subsidiary, but that amounted to an uninspired period of three years failed to capture the public imagination.
1964 The original GTO was an option package on the Pontiac LeMans, available as a coupe convertible hardtop, or a 2-door coupe. The Tempest line, which included the GTO, was redesigned for 1965 so that the car was longer and produces more energy. In 1966, the middle line underwent a redesign again. Pontiac Tempest body shape gave Coca-Cola "bottle that was sweeping the American automotive landscape at that time.
The 196 GTO for sale in July marked the end model year of that first generation, and important because the differences between the first and second would be dramatic. The following year, the Pontiac GTO adopt the A-body that would serve as a basis for other GM vehicles notable muscle like the Chevrolet Chevelle and El Camino. GM also would use a variant of the A-body as the basis for the Monte Carlo introduced in 1970.
The 1967 GTO was on sale available in three body styles. Pontiac sold 65 000 + hardtops, convertibles 9500 + and 7000 + sports coupes. Visually, Pontiac GTO for sale 1967 made different from its predecessors by replacing taillight covers eight louvered taillights independent, four on each side. In addition, the chrome grille set now, had moved Pontiac GTO emblems chrome side panels, and Rally II wheels with nuts color wheel was available as an option.
The 1967 GTO for sale also underwent mechanical changes that are kept apart. Pontiac fuel system replaced the Tri-Power with a completely new four-carburetor Rochester Quadrajet throats. The 389 V8 was available the previous three years has a larger diameter cylinder so that the movement was now 400 cubic inches (6.6 L). This new engine is available in three configurations: the economy, standard and high performance.
The issue of the economy uses a two-barrel carburetor rather than the Rochester Quadrajet, which is limited to 255 horsepower and 397 pound-feet of torque at 4400 rpm. The standard version of the engine, which made use the Rochester Quadrajet, produced 335 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 441 lb / ft at 3,400 rpm. The high performance engine negotiate a small amount of torque to a lot of power. It developed 360 horsepower at 5.100 rpm and 438 pound-feet of torque at 3600 rpm.
emission controls are present in the engines that GM sold OTG California. Moreover, as all vehicles in that time, the GTO received a new security team, who had commissioned a recent federal law. This new equipment includes four-way emergency blinkers, a flywheel energy-absorbing steering column, a padded instrument panel and control knobs that does not protrude.
In addition, Pontiac replaced the two-speed automatic transmission with TH-400 Turbo-Hydramatic transmission three-speed. This new transmission includes performance shifter Hurst dual-gate, which allowed either automatic or manual shifting. Front disc brakes were available as an option for the first time.
Like all cars of this time, the Pontiac GTO is prone to oxidation, so the fan in the market for a GTO 1964 on the sale should pay particular attention to this aspect. However, the purchase of a GTO in or around $ 10,000 which will likely include the purchase of a GTO bodywork needs substantial.
