Climbers should be pruned anytime from late autumn to early spring. Remove the oldest stems back to ground level. Normally there would only be one or two of these. The older stems will be darker and more wood like, the new stems will be bright green and still quite supple. Ramblers need to be pruned in summer just after flowering. Cut back main stems by approx a quarter to one-third and reduce side shoots by two-thirds or to two to three buds.
